Mayumba is a cruisy little town in Southern Gabon which borders the Mayumba National Park. We’re camping here with the WCS team, namely: Rich & Aimee and Mike & Linda.

Rich runs the Mayumba National Park (which contains the puddle we spent the night in last week!), Aimee works in education and Mike and Linda are two Saffas. Mike is actually an old friend from the UCT surf club.

Rich and Aimee have set up an excellent website which gives a great overview of the place:

Every day here is packed full of action. The first day we were here we helped run (and film) Little Miss Environment – Mayumba which was a marathon of loud music, traditional dancing and indecipherable French commentary.

The next day we spent the morning surfing Airports – a crazy, hollow beachbreak:

and the afternoon fishing.
Yesterday we started a basic service on the Cruiser and work continues. Last night we enjoyed Mamissa’s Famous Fish Sausages and a host of other food (Cassava leaves, fragrant rice, aubergine sauce, plantain and fish stew).

It was amazing. See a review of her restaurant here:

For now we’re holding out on some big swell coming soon, finishing off servicing the car, hoping to catch some fish, planning on spending a night at a point further south, and enjoying the good company and hospitality of the WCS crew. 44 days over schedule and counting!
