Didier + Solibra = Drogba

The story of Drogba

When we first arrived in Cote d’Ivoire we were fortunate enough to be introduced to one of Cote d’Ivoire’s great favourites… Drogba! This was not, however, the Chelsea striker but the Ivorian beer, Bock. It is an impressive one litre beer, which has been nicknamed Drogba after Cote d’Ivoire’s most famous footballer, Didier Drogba.

Local legend has it that the beer earned the nickname at the time when Cote d’Ivoire qualified for the 2006 World Cup. In the proceding celebrations, Didier was seen turning down champagne and other similar style of drinks in favour of a 1 Litre Bock. This public endorsement of the beer was recognised by the local population and the beer earned his namesake!

So when you next come to Cote d’Ivoire (and we know it will be soon), be sure to order a Drogba before the kick-off of the Chelsea game. Its a sure fire way of earning maximum respect from the locals.
