The cost of extreme facial hair?

It’s been almost 7 months since anybody on the AfricanSurfer expedition had a paycheck. And then… a few days ago – this comment from Stones’ brother on in reply to our “Abidjan nights” post:

“Listen guys, Stone is never going to pull a pretty chick like that looking like he has just walked out of the jungle after four months of solitary… And as for Lurks!!

Its time for a clean face approach, I am prepared to put money on the outcome”

Like all great African adventurers – we’re quite enjoying our facial hair for now. But we’re not going to scoff at some extra pocket money… especially after Lurker spent the Northern Africa budget in the nightclubs of Abidjan!

But we have a feeling a lot of people may be disappointed to see them go… so the question is thus:

“Noooo, don’t do it… the beards rock!”, or

“The beards suck, you guys look like you’ve been in ‘solitary’ … I’d shave it for $xx for sure”

We don’t think Kingsley would do it…

I think that there has been some twisting (possibly deliberate?) of my previous comment. My money is not on whether or not you lose the beards and make honest men of yourselves (we all know that facial hair means that you have something to hide and are not to be trusted…), but rather on the impact of the facial hair on Stone and Lurker’s attractiveness to the ladies. I bet (oh no, there goes my money again) all the comments in favour of the beards are from blokes!

The original trip

March 2007: Tim, Lurks & Stone mission north from Cape Town up the west coast of Africa, in search of good waves and good times. Their vehicle: a trusty 1981 Landcruiser named Mzee Kobe (The Old Tortoise). Their final destination: London... finally arriving almost a year behind schedule in latter 2008!
